Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
